I thought this blog is a good place to have my say about the books I read. I read a lot and often wish I had someone to discuss my thoughts with about the books I am reading or have read or about the writers of the books I have read or am reading. So here I go:
At the moment I am reading a book by Lynda La Plante. I have never read anything by this writer before. I know per (=s/he) has written things for television. I am not certain if I have seen any of those things.
The book I am reading at the moment is Above Suspicion. I have mixed feelings about the book. I do like the plot so far. It is about the police trying to find the serial killer of women. The police are the main characters and the story unfolds from their point of view. My mixed feelings come about the characterization. In a way I feel quite uneasy as I feel that my view of the main male police officer is shifting. I keep thinking is it me or the writer who changes the personality. Perhaps I did not pay attention to this character from the beginning. Or maybe the character was not gripping from the beginning. I have no strong feelings about this character apart from this unease about my reading of it. Not like in another book (Bright Rooms by Jenny Maxwell) I read recently where I strongly disliked the main character from the very beginning almost to the extent of not wanting to read the book to the end. I persevered with that book because I wanted to know how the plot developed. However, I will not start another book by Jenny Maxwell in a hurry. Coming back to the Above Suspicion I am enjoying the book and will write more once I have finished it. I may even read another book by Lynda La Plante.
